What is my typical everyday coffee?
Hello! To start off I am going to tell you what I typically do every morning to wake me up. I am not a morning person, but the coffee helps. The first thing I do is grab my electric kettle, fill it with water, and get the water boiling. I use a pour over coffee maker, pour over coffee involves hot water being poured over grounds in a filter and drained into a cup. Once I have that I put a coffee filter in the pour over and wait for the water to boil. I pour the water in and let it drain to rinse off the filter. This is important so no dust or odors on the filter get into the coffee that's about to be made. I have to refill my electric kettle again and while I wait for it to boil I start to hand grind my coffee. I put roughly 1/4 cup of Woodstock beans from Starbucks into the grinder and start turning the mechanical crank until the coffee is finely grinded. Now let me tell you, it is an arm workout. I dump the grounds into the filter and make sure the lever on the pour over is closed so it doesn't drain just yet. I pour in the hot water and stir gently with a spoon to mix the grounds in with the water. I will let it sit for about 3-5 minutes until switching the lever to let the coffee drain. Normally I still have room in the cup so I will pour the leftover hot water through the filter to top off my cup. I am a fan of black coffee, so most mornings this is the time I start sipping it. If I want something different I will add a little sugar in the raw and milk or vanilla creamer. I do not like my coffee sweet though, so I add very little if anything. Before I moved out of my parents house my dad had a pour over ice coffee maker. It is very different from the one I have now but it made my favorite coffee. Now if I want ice coffee I have to buy it or put it in the fridge to cool down. I don't like to pour my coffee over ice before I let it have time to cool because then you'll get watered down coffee. After I have drunk my cup of coffee and the filter dries some I will do the dishes. The coffee grounds and filter go in the trash can because they are no good anymore unless you decompose them! Then I run hot water to rinse off the coffee maker, I use some soap on the spoon and cup but not on the coffee maker. I will just make sure the coffee maker is well rinsed and wiped down. Once a month I will use one part vinegar and two parts water, I let it sit for a couple minutes and then rinse well several times. This helps because it is difficult to get all the soap washed off/out.
